Normal Afternoon

Everyone went home for lunch. I also returned to my kitchen, heated my rice and beans and ate lunch. After a quick nap, I finalized my ideas for English class. In addition to Monday and Wednesday with our teens, I started an English class at one of the daycares in the city. We have class once a week for an hour. They are very energetic! The first day, I was not sure about life. The second class went great. I was going for the third. Prepared with puzzles and number flashcards to practice colors and numbers, I left for class. However… classic Nicaraguan style… the teachers were having a seminar so there was no class. Okay, no problem. Now I have free time this afternoon.

I bought a little bread and went to visit a few people from the church. The first family was home and welcomed me. Thankfully, because 5 minutes after I arrived, it started raining frogs and snakes! Yes, here they say frogs and snakes not cats and dogs. They were packaging pinol for the grandmother to sell. It’s the Nica version of hot chocolate. She buys the ingredients, mixes the powder and bags it by the pound. We talked about ideas for teaching children’s class. They shared a couple new songs with me, and I sang “Sea of Galilee” for them. We talked about the need to be hot and on fire for God in comparison to how we like to drink our pinol. It was a short visit, but it was blessing for me, and I pray I was a blessing to them.

The next sister from the church I wanted to visit is shorter than me. She is wise in years and has such a gentle spirit. I’ve passed by her street before, and she asks, “When are you going to come visit my house. It’s the blue one just down there at the corner.” So, I walked in search of the blue house close to the corner… But no doors were open. The little shop that was didn’t know the lady I was looking for. In reality, it’s not the best neighborhood around, and I didn’t want to knock on every door. After asking one more family, sadly, I left without finding her. However, I did run into another teenager from church. I am thankful to live in a small town.

I can never really guess what’s going to happen. But I can say that when I let plans change easily God leads the way. Have a wonderful, flexible day!
